A colonial girl costume is ideal for dressing up at Thanksgiving. The tradition of Thanksgiving goes back to the various colonies in the 1600s and the day was variable. The Thanksgiving Day as we now know it was created by George Washington in 1789. So Thanksgiving is a good time to remember colonial times and the struggles our ancestors went through on arriving in America.
The Fourth of July or Independence Day is also a great time to remember our colonial past when we declared our independence from Great Britain. The separation actually took place on July 2 but the Declaration of Independence was finally approved on July 4. There are lots of celebrations such as carnivals and fairs and so many opportunities for dressing up in colonial costumes!
Of course, you can opt for these costumes at any fancy dress event such as Halloween also. Colonial times would make a great theme for any event. Visit http://colonialgirlcostume.org to see some appropriate costumes.
