As we freeze our tails off in these winter times, many of us have started to look forward to the new golf season that is coming closer for every snowy day that goes by. You might even have brought out your putter and started to practice inside, to prepare yourself for the competitive nature of the sport. The great thing about golf is that it combines so many fantastic elements in to one game. Everyone can play, you get to stay outside (hopefully in the sun), and breath in the great atmosphere and nature that a golf course represents.
For those of you that are considering upping your game in 2010 you are probably best advised to work on your golf fundamentals. Basic technique is the cornerstone of every sport, and especially a highly technical sport like golf. If you don’t have these down your (w)hole game will suffer.
How to perfect your golf swing starts with your stance or setup. This is probably the most important element of golf, obviously because everything else is build on top of your setup. You want to maintain a balanced setup and a good grip. The grip should be “V” shaped, and not be too firm or too loose.
Next on your list is your swing plane and swing tempo. These two elements are linked together, because if you have a bad swing plane your tempo will ruin your shot. The best advice is to match your tempo with your swing technique, so that you don’t swing harder than your skills can handle. When you slow down you will have a lot easier time hitting the ball center, instead of on the top or too low.
With a proper setup, swing plane, and swing tempo, you will see great improvements on both the length of your shots and the precision. Only through tackling the fundamentals will you be able to excel to a level where you advanced game has any meaning to your score card. Perfect golf swings are just a few conscious practice shots away!
