We have recently instituted a new program at my business where all the management personnel have to take a series of courses. Right now we are requiring MSP training, Prince2 training, and MOR training. It’s been an immediate success, and I think it’s one of the best ideas I’ve had in years. I just got tired of watching my managers make poor decisions, and I decided it was time to do something about it. Most of these people are very talented, but nobody can be their best if they don’t have the right kind of know-how. These courses in combination should be very helpful In that area, and it might make it possible to stop micro managing everything all the time.
The MSP training, Prince2 training, and MOR training courses aren’t especially difficult, but they all teach very important skills that can make your employees much better at what they do. The MSP training is an overall management course that shows your workers how to handle a project from start to finish. The Prince2 training is very similar, and it works well in conjunction with the MSP training. The MOR training (management of risk) is helpful for a variety of reasons, and I think it’s probably been more beneficial to my workers than all the other courses because of the kind of work that we do. I would definitely suggest that any business owner consider having his managers trained in these areas. It’s great to know that they all have the knowledge to make the same kinds of decisions I would make.
